Lunchtime Lecture with Tasmanian artist Jane Giblin and Poet Pete Hay

Join us at the Gallery for a Lunchtime Lecture with Tasmanian artist Jane Giblin
and Poet Pete Hay.
'I Shed My Skin, A Furneaux Islands Story' exhibition was shown towards the end of 2019 at the Burnie Regional Gallery when Jane gave an artist talk which she thoroughly enjoyed!
During her four-year research into family Furneaux Islands history, Jane travelled up and down the eastern seaboard of Australia interviewing her family.
The interviews revealed great love for family lives and the unifying rituals of gathering together seasonally for work, ...hard work, in the earth’s dirt and by the sea, in Franklin Sound, on the islands, and on Flinders.
Jane's project included many journeys to Flinders to explore the sites of family tradition and some of this was in collaboration with Pete Hay, another north west coaster.
Pete produced 30 pieces of poetry and prose writings for the project and Jane responded with 30 lithographs.
All of the artwork, Jane (who kept a project journal) and Pete's writing and a sample of each of the 50 transcripts are included in her book.
Jane and Pete will present reflections and readings from their work. A conversation shared with the audience will be most welcome!
Places are limited, booking is required to attend.
